MORROW Intelligence (MI) conducted a foresight workshop on smart cities for a delegation from the Sabah State Government.

Sabah, a place renowned for its rich biodiversity, conservation and cultural heritage, has embarked on its smart city journey in recent years. This is especially unique considering its people, their lifestyles and the state’s economic thrusts.

Hence, policies must be calibrated and contextualised to ensure human-centricity.

The Workshop

The workshop delved into benchmarking and foresight methodologies that promote multifaceted critical thinking. Managing Director Saravanan Sugumaran, Executive Director Daniel Liu and Consultant Nicole Lum guided the delegates through a hands-on exploration of scenario planning, to reveal important priorities for Sabah.

Key Trends and Solutions

The delegates, in the midst of various trends, pinpointed crucial factors to strategise for, encompassing intensifying floods posing a threat to Sabah’s agriculture and natural assets, the escalating cost of living impacting the local way of life, and the growing foreign interest potentially influencing the development of the urban landscape.

Additionally, they engaged in brainstorming sessions, generating solutions to be further developed, such as formulating bankable projects to attract new sources of capital and implementing policies geared towards safeguarding social inclusivity.
